2012 MPG Track Day: 2013 Cadillac ATS

If you liked the CTS, you’ll love this car. It’s like a business suit with a rapid pulse. Stylish, comfortable – although I had to fiddle a bit to get the seat where I wanted it – and available with just about every luxury feature you could want, the ATS takes what the CTS offered and moves it well forward. On the track, its composure belies its size, thanks to a 50/50 weight balance of its relatively light 3,400 pounds. Steering feel is good, as is turn-in and braking response. The suspension deals with directional changes well and limits body roll. At no point did the suspension wallow or feel harsh. A turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine with 272 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque provides plenty of thrust, along with 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Want more? There’s a V-8 model. We can hope there will be an ATS-V.

Verdict: Why speak German?
